Prof (Dr) Saumyaranjan Sahoo

A long name, I know — just call me Saumya (सौम्य).

I teach courses across the production and operations management domain at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur, and I came to it the long way round — through consulting, production planning, supply chains and analytics, making these decisions for years before I ever taught them.

That road left me with a simple conviction: you learn the art of decision-making by experiencing it. So my classroom is built on interactive and gamified learning — you take the call, watch it play out, and feel what a textbook can only describe.

My research follows the same decisions into real organisations. I study how Industry 4.0, analytics and the circular economy are reshaping operations strategy — and what that asks of the managers making the call.
